What a day as silverware returns to the club for the first time in nearly two years, titanic performances all over the pitch on a scorcher of a day out in Mount Roskill led us to a 2-13 to 2-5 victory over a gallant Celtic team that kept on fighting to the end thru the bravery of David ‘The Cat’ Maloney that kept our attack at bay. A solid back line from keeper to young Farrelly to Justy led the line while Seanie and Cookie plucked balls outta the sky the US air force would be proud of in midfield. Marty Coll battled, Ruairi broke ball and the sublime finishing skills of Brian Briody and Barry McCoy carried us over the line. Brian Briody is due a bill from Auckland GAA for making absolute ribbon of the crossbar in sending in a rasper of a gaol past the star struck Moloney. Barry McCoy surely has goal of the season wrapped up with his stunner in the first half. McCoy led the plaudits and has carried off the man of the match award for the wee county. A special mention too for Diarmuid Hegarty – a man who has helped so many others but who he himself suffered a serious injury during the game, we wish him all the best and a fast recovery. Also this day cannot pass without a thought for the tragic events overnight in Tyrone with whom all our thoughts and prayers are with at this difficult time. On a final note one piece of silverware has returned but by god this is only the start for this team, the appetiser has been served, roll on the main course next February!!! Hon Marist!!
